Nanyang Technological University

Other Accommodation
I am someone who appreciate people and the relationships you can make with people more then going to a world renowned attraction. Madison, Wisconsin was the perfect place for this. A student town in middle America it was the best 6 months of my life.

Campus Life
The town revolved around the university, everything you need is in walking distance.
Campus Facilities:
The University is so big and in the middle of town that the town revolves around the university. The only downside was not being able to stay on campus which was hard to find outside accommodation particularly for only 6 months. This is really hard for the July to December semester as rent is much higher in these 6 months.

Have to stay in and around campus.
Sports:
Great social sport program known as intra mural sport. I was apart of an exchange mixed football and soccer team as well as a frat football team.
Societies:
There were many societies that you could definetely become a part of. I joined a fraternity and loved it.
Accommodation
You cant stay on campus most of the time as they prioritise domestic students. This was hard to find other housing especially only on a 6 month lease.

You have to get the universitys insurance which is expensive about $800 USD along side your travel insurance. However, the services provided were good I broke my hand and had a few check ups and they were all great to use.
Extra Comments:
Growth and Memories
Simply by living out of home and thousands of miles away from anyone I knew is dauntign but as long as you take advantage of every situation people are welcoming and accomodating.
Memories:
The most fun I have ever had. I now have friends all over the US and the world. Something I would reccomedn is really making great firnds with other people on exchange as they during holidays want to travle and see other parts of the country where as americans will usually go home for the breaks or work and have other commitments. Exchange students are always up for a good time and to try something new!

Social Life:
I joined a fraternity for the 6 months i was there that was the most fun id ever had. It wasn't just partying although a large part but feeding homeless, social formals, religious events, Drama performances with sorioties there is something for everyone. Having an accent is also really good.
Tips for Making Friends:
Say yes to everything and make an effort to meet new people. Especially do this early in the semester where everyone doesn't know anyone.

Looking Back at My Experience...
Originally unsure whether I would study abroad with all the unknowns, I was extremely close to not applying. In the end, exchange was THE BEST thing that I have pushed myself to do - I got to live in another country, meet global friends, travel to nearby countries, make life-long memories and in general have a great time, all while studying! I still can't believe I almost missed out on this opportunity simply because I was too 'unsure' to apply - do not make the same mistake. Hopefully sharing my experience helps!
What I Liked Most:
The people I met. Making some great friends early on I had a number of different people to mingle with and go out with.

Improved:
I think having more events run by the university for all the exchange students could be good.
Orientation/Onboarding:
The orientation was good but it stopped after the O-week more events run by the university could have been good.
How My Home Institution Prepared Me:
They were great, while a lot of the forms were difficult and hard to process Macquarie were always available and helpful.
