Nanyang Technological University

Other Accommodation
As an undergraduate combined law student who was always interested in travelling and studying abroad, I knew that exchange was going to be a deeply rewarding experience. Fortunately, my University helped me realise this during a semester-long exchange at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), a world-renowned university. Singapore is a city of many things, it has an extremely lively social scene, a gourmet foodie scene and amazing gardens. I highly suggest and recommend Singapore as an Exchange destination.

Looking Back at My Experience...
Originally unsure whether I would study abroad with all the unknowns, I was extremely close to not applying. In the end, exchange was THE BEST thing that I have pushed myself to do - I got to live in another country, meet global friends, travel to nearby countries, make life-long memories and in general have a great time, all while studying! I still can't believe I almost missed out on this opportunity simply because I was too 'unsure' to apply - do not make the same mistake. Hopefully sharing my experience helps!
What I Liked Most:
I was able to mix and make friends with a really diverse group of people, make life-changing memories and make the most of the world-renowned facilities at NTU.
I think the personal highlight was managing to attend and watch the Singapore Grand Prix, an amazing experience for any F1 fan!

Improved:
I feel that the initial onboarding and communications between my host and home universities could have been better. However, I and many more international students seemed to have navigated it.
Orientation/Onboarding:
Onboarding can be summed up in two main ways. There is the official onboarding where NTU runs a lecture on introducing International students to Singapore including cultural differences, rules and history. The unofficial onboarding will be when you make local friends who will show you around the real Singapore.
How My Home Institution Prepared Me:
Macquarie University did have mechanisms and procedures in place to support students abroad. However, because the processes are different between Macquarie and NTU, it was difficult to organise everything in Australia. For example, I was finalising my NTU units and the MQ equivalent units two weeks into my exchange.
